Wearables

Pay contactless with your ring, bracelet, watch or keyfob

Last year, KBC did a pilot project with 1000 of their customer on wearables that got a lot of positive feedback. They therefore decided to take the next step and fully integrated activation and management of the wearables in KBC Mobile.

User feedback pilot project drives requirements

  • How often do they use it compared to other payment methods (bank card, cash, smartphone,...)?
  • What are the main advantages and problems?
  • How much are they willing to pay for them?
  • Is it a gimmick?

This survey with 1000 pilot users resulted in conceptual wireframes and lots and lots of customer insights.

Wireframing

From the pilot project we learned that using the dedicated app to manage the wearable was difficult.

We therefore decided to fully integrate wearable purchase, activation and management into KBC mobile

Usability testing

Using Axure I made a clickable prototype (contact me to get the password) that was usability tested twice. After the first test we got the feedback we had to explain better the safety behind this payment method and smoothen the purchase process a bit more.

Graphical design

Together with the graphical designers I worked out a design for KBC Mobile that:

  • Made use of existing UI components available in the library
  • Respects KBC's style as described in the style guide
  • Stays close to the wireframes so that what worked well on wireframe wasn't broken in the design

Multi-device and browser testing

During and after development we tested whether the purchase and activation functions worked well.

Using our list of most popular devices and our virtual devices on Experitest we made sure the screens worked fine on both iOS and Android
